Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin was born in 1873 and lived until 1953.
Born into a family where he was beaten by his drunken father daily, Joseph Stalin grew up in a troubled home. As he became older, he was put into a school that would prepare you to become a priest. Stalin was fascinated with Karl Marx’s ideals and philosophies and he was soon kicked out of the school for failing his tests. Stalin became one of Vladimir Lenin's closest allies in his communist propaganda marches. When Vladimir died, Stalin fought for the spot for leadership. He was put into power in 1928. Stalin ruled by terror and power and even his people feared him. Stalin changed the peasant economy of the Soviet Union to an industrial and military power. Stalin was a dictator and had control over the economy of the Soviet Union. He even took farmlands from farmers and this left many very poor and created a problem of poverty. He also caused The Great Purge, which was when he imprisoned and executed many in the Red Army and those who were Communist leaders. Stalin was very paranoid and if he felt that someone was in an act of espionage or treason, he would not hesitate to have them imprisoned and/or executed. When the Cold War started in 1946, Stalin was more than ready to fight militarily and politically. His nickname "The Man of Steel" was fitting to this dictator of power and his Communist philosophy.
